SPEAK ENGLISH WITHOUT GRAMMAR

Speak English well and we will be able to achieve the vision of our President to make India a Developed Country by the year 2020. India is blessed with two noble souls (Our Ex-President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and our Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh) and their vision will drive us to achieve our National Goal of 2020.

The Speak Good English Movement's message is a very simple one - speak good English so that we can be understood, not just locally but internationally. Our objective is to enable every Indian to speak Standard English that is intelligible to English speakers allover the world.

Over the years, our peoplehave made good progress in learning English.English has been the key to India's competitive edge in the globalised economy. The Chinese are also learning English seriously now,understandingits importance in the global economy.

Language is not just a tool for passing examinations and conducting business.Language builds relationships. It is a life skill, which all Indians should have. We are good at using a lot of "do" words or instructional language, which may sometimes be lacking in finesse when we wish to convey how we feel and think. Many of us lack the ability to connect with another human being at a deeper level.

We need emotional literacy to create the social glue that holds us together as a society and as a nation. The language of the heart, of feelings and emotions is the key to connect with our parents, children, colleagues, our neighbours and especially our loved ones.

India has a number of languages like Hindi, Tamil etc and availability of English will not only give Indians a more advantageous position locally within India, but also internationally.

Raising the standard of spoken English requires efforts that go beyond schools. Creating English Speaking students clubs by students themselves will spread the Speak Good English message.

Encourage students and the public to make a conscious effort to use Standard English. To speak English properly requires some conscious effort but it will be well worth it.

WHY DO WE NEED TO SPEAK IN ENGLISH

A recent article reported that a double MA holder was working as a Coolie. The article said that he was not good at spoken English. By saying so, it doesn't mean that we ignore our mother tongue or any other regional languages. On the other hand knowing English will enhance the image of our mother tongue as well as our other regional languages.

How did you and I start talking in our mother tongue? Using grammar? Not at all. We all started talking without grammar. Similarly, we can start talking in any language and then conveniently improve our grammar systematically in a step-by-step basis.

GET OUT AND GET KNOWN

From our surveys, most of the educated youth (90%) manage reading and writing easily. But when it comes to Public Speaking, Interview Sessions and Group Discussions, they fail miserably due to "stage fear" and "lack of self-confidence". This fear has to be eliminated by a continuous and systematic training from "day one", for improving their self confidence and building their capabilities. This confidence over English will be a blessing for them and will prove to be a ladder to success in their career. By doing so, you will come out and make yourself known as a successful person to the world.

In order to motivate our youth, we suggest that students start learning good English from 5th Standard onwards. Our strategy is short and sweet, step by step and systematic. In reality this method helps the students achieve overall success. Since most of the subjects are taught in English, they can shine very well with a strong English background.

FOREWORD - S.P. Deol - IPS

I was sent a copy of "Speak English without Grammar!" By GREENpro. I was extremely pleased to go through this book since most of us are afraid of the big size of English Grammar books and Dictionaries.We do not have to be perfect in grammar. We only have to minimise the mistakes we are making. For instance,the word 'the' is the most commonly used word in the English Language. Two pages of a grammar book can explain when this word is to be used and when it is not to be used. Indians,however keep using in it when it is not required ('the' Pakistan, 'the' Hindi) and don't use it when required (President of Republic, USA, U.N.O.).We thus make, and continue making thousands of mistakes because of one little word. Similarly, each and every idea can be expressed in 1,800 small words of the English language.If you know the word 'develop' .

Speaking wrong English is far better than speaking no English.

The important, perhaps the most important thing, is to launch yourself into speaking English at every opportunity, especially with people who are better at English, and to also request those people to correct you on the spot whenever you make mistake.

How is that we found it easier to speak Hindi or our regional language? This is because we learnt to speak first, and then learnt to read or write. In English, our system has only bothered about reading and writing, and has ignored speaking altogether. If you are shy and cannot bring yourself to speak English in public, what prevents you from THINKING IN ENGLISH? This will prepare you to eventually gather confidence to speak.

We Indians are in a much better position compared to the Chinese, or the Russians or the Japanese to speak English. We know the names of All OBJECTS in English. We know what is a Railway station, a pen, a table, a book, a road, a motorcycle, a certificate, a certificate, a clock, a magazine, almost everything. People who have had no such exposure to English have to learn even this from zero.

Also, listen to spoken English on the radio and the T.V.and watch English movies. Read simple English stories and comics. Children who have not started going to school learn English by these means. Ask yourself - are they more intelligent than you? They have learnt in a year or so. With your qualifications and mature mind, it should take you not more than one month.

You need a small push to speak English. Use this book as that push. Good Luck to you !
